Home Energy Assessment

Do you need energy efficient upgrades for an existing home or building, but are not sure what work needs to be done? Start with a no cost energy assessment with Insulation Man.

Blower Door

A home energy assessment outlines a path toward a more comfortable, more affordable, healthier home  — and is an integral step in qualifying for NYSERDA EmPower+ incentives! Insulation Man can identify the key areas where your home is wasting energy and recommend the most cost-effective improvements for maximum comfort, minimum energy bills, and optimal indoor air quality.

A no-cost whole-house energy assessment evaluates the following:

Building Envelope:

The building envelope comprises the physical barriers between the interior and exterior of a home, including windows, doors, insulation, and the level of air leakage in between building materials. Inspecting the envelope helps determine how well the home is insulated and sealed against external temperature changes and weather conditions.

All Combustion Equipment:

We assess all combustion equipment, such as furnaces, boilers, water heaters, and gas stoves to make sure they are operating safely. This evaluation includes checking for proper venting, avoiding carbon monoxide buildup, and ensuring that the equipment is using fuel efficiently.

Air Movement and Indoor Air Quality:

Understanding air movement within a home is key to diagnosing energy efficiency issues and improving comfort levels. Air movement is examined to identify unwanted drafts, air leaks, and the effectiveness of the ventilation system. Improvements in reducing air movement are integral to improving indoor air quality as it directly impacts the health and comfort of the home’s occupants.

The Diagnostic Tools We Use

During an assessment, we use advanced diagnostic tools like a blower door to measure the rate of air infiltration in the home and an infrared camera to identify areas of air leakage and deficient insulation.

The collected data will be analyzed by our expert team and based on our findings, we will make energy efficient recommendations such as improving your home’s insulation or air sealing, and HVAC improvements like heat pump installation.  To help defer improvement costs, we will review NYSERDA incentives and rebates you qualify for, assist you in prioritizing them in accordance with your budget, and propose alternative financing options.
