Optimizing energy consumption for heating and cooling homes in the Southern Tier of New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania presents a win-win situation for homeowners, utility companies, and the environment. Because of this, a variety of financing options and incentives are at your disposal!

Sealed offers exclusive, specific rebates directly from NYSEG for residential attic projects. This performance-based insulation and air sealing rebate up to $2000 is only accessible through them. Insulation Man is the only contractor in the entire Southern Tier of NY who can help you take advantage of this program. Green Job Green New York (GJGNY) Loan Fund 

Smart Energy Loan

The Smart Energy Loan (SEL) is a traditional loan that you repay monthly via check. The interest rate is 3.99% or automatic payment (ACH) interest rate is 3.49%.

Upgrades and services covered:

  • Purchase and installation of solar photovoltaic systems, ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, and energy efficiency improvements.

Eligibility:

  • You must own the home or be an authorized representative of the property.

Loan terms:

  • Unsecured
  • Interest rates are subject to change. Check for available residential interest rates.
  • Loan amounts from $1,500 – $25,000 with loan terms of 5, 10, or 15 years
  • If you sell or transfer the property, you remain responsible for the balance of the loan

On-Bill Recovery Loan

The On-Bill Recovery (OBR) Loan, your loan payments are paid as part of your utility bill. Estimated average monthly energy cost savings must be greater than monthly loan payments to use the OBR loan.

Upgrades and services covered:

  • Purchase and installation of solar photovoltaic systems, ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, and energy efficiency improvements.

Eligibility:

  • You must own the home and be named on the utility account
  • The home must be served by a participating utility, including: Central Hudson Gas & Electric, Con Edison, PSEG-Long Island, NYSEG, National Grid (Upstate NY customers only), Orange & Rockland, and Rochester Gas & Electric

Loan Approval Criteria

Home improvements that might be preventing you from getting insulation work done are eligible for funding through NEIF such as:

  • Asbestos removal
  • Repair or Replacement of Roof
  • Knob & Tube
  • Windows & Doors

The temperature on the first floor stays the same for HOURS without the heat coming on. I think the heat comes on once every 4-6 hrs! I can tell it is on for shorter periods too, it does not take much to get the house up to temperature. ( I think the attic is next some day, it is now the least insulated part of the house)

I realized the first winter that I spent in my new home in Vestal New York that the insulation was insufficient. The house never had a warm comfortable feeling. The bedrooms above the garage were especially cold and the floors freezing to bare feet. The furnace ran more and more the lower the temperature got. When the temperature dropped into the negative digits for several days the furnace seemed to run almost constantly. Eventually on a Sunday of course, the furnace gave up from exhaustion and needed a costly repair.  The repair man told me that he had been too many calls in my neighborhood over the winter and that the houses were not well insulated when built in the 1960’s. Naturally when winter turned to spring I forgot about the entire problem. Until we started to have a lot of 80+ degree days, the air conditioner ran constantly and the house never really felt cool.

I signed up for a NYSERDA energy assessment and selected Insulation Man to perform the testing. I selected Insulation Man because I knew they were a reputable company that had performed work in the Greater Binghamton area for a number of years.

I was SHOCKED to learn my new home had no insulation in the walls!

The sales representative was a pleasure to work with. He was very thorough and knowledgeable. He explained the options that were available for insulating the house and how the work would be performed.  The quote process was very professional and I appreciate that he was willing to work around my schedule.

Once the work was scheduled the crew showed up on time, performed all promised work, finished on time and cleaned up when they were finished. They were prompt, polite, neat and very fast. The production manager provided me with feedback on how the insulating was going when I asked and he made sure that I was satisfied with the work and clean up when the work was complete.

My home is much more comfortable and very quite. I am definitely enjoying the decrease in my electric bill. I am very satisfied on all counts. I will recommend Insulation Man to others.
